Jam Gate is a picnic spot which is located on Mhow Madleshwar Road in Maheshwar Tehsil of Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh. In the hills of Vindhyachal, in the lap of nature, there is a jam gate on the high hill of Jam Ghat, which is very beautiful. It is also called the gateway of Nimar Malwa.
The road journey from Jam Gate and Ghat to the bottom during the rainy season is reminiscent of the roads of Shimla Kullu Manali. The clouds are visible so close in the road and in the valley that they touch it with their hands. The hill springs welcome us in the rain all along the way of the ghat. A pond and stepwell were also built along with the fort in Jam village, which is still present today. There is also an ancient Shiva temple in the foothills. The Narmada river looks like a silver wire from Jam Gate.

All of you might not be able to understand by reading the heading, so let us tell you that there is a magnetic hill in the direction of Mandleshwar, some distance away from the jam gate. So now whenever you visit this unique land of Nimar, do not forget to visit this place.

Checkpoint of Malwa and Nimar in Vindhyachal Hills – Jam Gate

The Malwa Plateau is located in the Vindhachal Mountains in Madhya Pradesh. This plateau of Malwa is known for its beauty. The view from where the plateau begins is very picturesque, from where you have a panoramic view of the depths of Nimar. One is connected in both Indore, the great city of Malwa, and Maheshwar, the historical city of Nimar. This means that both cities were the capital of the state of Holkar during the princely period. During her reign, the goddess Ahilyabai Holkar had many historical, religious and state buildings built for the public, which is why she is still worshiped as a goddess and not as a ruler.

A picturesque and delightful spot at the checkpoint between Malwa and Nimar on the Indore to Mhow via Mandleshwar road. The name of this place is Jam Gate. There is a very nice gate that is still in very good condition. This door has a special meaning in history. Jam Gate is nestled in a dense forest on the Ghat about 50km from Indore and 28km from Mandleshwar. To get here it is better to go by private vehicle, since the frequency of public transport in this area is very low.

This Stautor was built during the reign of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. This gate was built at the mouth of the hill in the middle of the shortest route to the two capitals of Holkar State, Maheshwar and Indore, so that both sides of the road could be monitored. Armies used to move from here and it was built as a checkpoint. At the same time, it was also used to collect octroi while transporting merchants’ goods. Standing at this gate, the soldiers could easily keep an eye on the movement at the foot of the hill in Nimar. The Jam Gate at Jam Ghat has historical significance. The Jam Gate and road were built by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar. They used this route to get from Maheshwar to Indore. Jam Gate is also called the Gate of Nimar-Malwa. Thousands of tourists come from Nimar and Malwa every year to see this historic gateway.

The ancient Parvati Mata Temple amidst the hills above Jam Gate is also the belief center of devotees. Many events are held here during Navratri and people from near and far come here to attend.

The Vindhyachal hill and the forest of the valley below are very beautiful from the temple and from the Jam gate. The road drive down from Jam Gate and Ghat during the rainy season is reminiscent of the roads of Shimla Kullu Manali. The clouds are visible on the road and in the valley so close that you can touch them with your hands. The hill springs greet us in the rain all the way up the Ghat.

Coming from Indore, about 3-4 km before Jam Darwaza, there is a nice pond on our right side with restaurant etc. nearby. Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation is developing. A fortified kothi known as Budhi Jam can be seen near the pond. Possibly this kothi or garhi was used as barracks for the soldiers who were certainly employed at Jam Gate.

Jam Gate Indore, unique valleys where history and spirituality meet

If the Malwa Plateau is famous for its climate, then its fame is the towering Vindhyachal mountain. The mountain range in which there is a white stream from many rivers and springs, and also a velvety shade of green. Where history testifies to their existence and where the stream of spirituality has flowed uninterrupted for centuries. One such place is on the Mhow-Mandaleshwar road, about 50 km from the city, where the triveni of nature, history and spirituality saturate everyone.

During the rainy season, the beauty of this place shines in many ways. This beautiful place is Jam Gate, which is very popular among tourists. Restoration work has recently been carried out on this beautiful site by the Department of Archeology at a cost of Rs 18,000 and further restoration work is planned to be carried out in the coming days. Whether it is a photo shoot or a videography, it is currently a matter of tourism or gastronomy that attracts tourists. The repair work of the ceiling, floor and walls of the door was done by the old method itself.

This huge historic gate was built in the village of Jam on the border of Malwa and Nimar, built by Ahilyabai Holkar in 1747. This gate was named Jam Darwaza after the name of the village itself. In fact, it’s a place that testifies that given the right advice, one can change not only their lives, but the face of society.

The door was made from the crowd of loot

Sahdev Girwal who gave history information to tourists at Jam Gate was a Ganpatrao dacoit in that area who was taken hostage by the Holkar soldiers and when they were presented to Ahilyabai they inspired him to the right way walk. When he gave the loot amount to Ahilyabai, he had this door built and presented it to Ganpatrao with the same amount, and ordered him to check and collect from the merchants passing by.

Nature’s unique colors are seen together

On the one hand, the mountain represents the point of the abyss, on the other hand, this place shows many colors of nature. The stream of the Narmada River is also visible from here, and the sunshine coming from the middle of the bright mountains is also smiling. During the rainy season, a blanket of fog remains here as well. The most important thing is that when you look down from the hill to the foothills, you can see many shades of green, as if a painter sprinkled colors here.
